GIZ International Services is preparing for the EU-funded tender: „Technical Assistance Facility – Support to South Africa’s Just Energy Transition (JET South Africa)". The Overall Objective (Impact) of this Action is to promote a just and sustainable energy transition in South Africa.
The Specific Objectives (SO) of this action are to:
1. Improve policy and regulatory framework for a just energy transition.
2. Enhance the effectiveness of the TVET system in matching skills to just energy transition, with a particular focus on those most affected by the transition.
3. Enhance the effectiveness of financing instruments for the creation, transition, upscaling and development of SMMEs active in green economy value chains or willing to invest in low carbon production processes.
- Advise government and stakeholders on policy, regulatory, and institutional frameworks for green hydrogen deployment.
- Provide technical input on sector planning and green hydrogen value chain development.
- Facilitate and strengthen research, innovation, and industry partnerships.
- Support alignment with international hydrogen strategies and certification schemes.
- Contribute to capacity building and knowledge sharing for sustainable hydrogen development.
General Professional Experience
- Master’s degree in chemical engineering, energy systems, environmental technology, or a related discipline.
- 8–10 years of professional experience in low-carbon technologies, with at least 5 years focused on hydrogen or alternative fuels.
- Excellent command of English (minimum C1 level).
- Minimum of 3–5 years of direct experience in green hydrogen project development, policy advisory, or innovation support.
- Strong understanding of hydrogen policy frameworks, certification schemes, and value chain development.
- Proven experience in research and innovation partnerships, early-stage deployment, or energy–industry collaboration.
- Familiarity with international hydrogen strategies (e.g., EU Hydrogen Strategy) and country-level roadmaps.
- Experience as an expert providing technical assistance embedded in a public or regulatory institution
- Experience with EU-funded projects or projects funded by other donors
- Knowledge of the Southern African energy context, preferably with professional experience in South Africa
