GIZ International Services is shortlisted for the EU-funded project "Support to Ukraine in further alignment with the provisions of Chapter 27 of the EU Acquis on environment" in Ukraine and looking for a Key Expert 3 - Expert on environmental compliance assurance.

The overall objective is to support Ukraine in its EU membership path and further alignment with the provisions of Chapter 27 of the EU acquis on environment while strengthening country`s resilience and capacity to respond to the impacts generated by Russia’s war of aggression.

The specific objectives (Outcomes) of this contract are as follows:

  • The Specific Objective 1 is that the environmental legislation is enhanced in line with Chapter 27 of the EU acquis;
  • The Specific Objective 2 is that the capacity of Ukraine’s public authorities is strengthened to implement the reforms, enforce the legislation in the area of environment, pursue the green recovery and reconstruction effort including via cross-sectoral mainstreaming of environment;
  • The Specific Objective 3 is that public access to environmental information is improved and public awareness raised on the benefits of environmental reforms and green reconstruction is increased.


Requirements of the position: 

Qualifications and skills
  • At least a master degree (or equivalent) in environment, law, economics, biology, chemistry, engineering or directly related discipline, or bachelor in the same field plus four years of relevant professional experience;
  • Advanced English language skills of at least level C1 (understanding, speaking, writing) required;
  • Asset: Language skills in Ukrainian of at least B2 (understanding, speaking, writing).
General professional experience
  • At least 2 000 working days of professional experience in the environment field.
Specific professional experience
  • At least 1 000 working days of professional experience in the implementation of environmental compliance assurance in EU Member States or candidate countries;
  • Asset: experience as a civil servant of the EU or EU Member State’s public administration in charge of environmental compliance assurance, e.g. as a staff of environmental inspectorate;
  • Asset: professional experience in environment in Ukraine.
